Antioch

On September 16, 1850, the first settlers arrived at the foot of what is now F Street in Antioch. The town was named after the ancient biblical city in Syria. The town incorporated in 1872 with just 600 citizens. Some of the early businesses included brick kilns, coal mining, a copper smelter, several potteries and a distillery. Over the years Antioch grew and thrived and by the 1970’s Antioch had grown to 28,500 residents and today stands at a population just over 103,000.

Antioch’s downtown or “Rivertown District” is known for its quaint shops, restaurants and the newly restored El Campanil Theater with its wonderful stage productions and showings of vintage films.
